Hairstylist extraordinaire Ken Paves is adding more unbelievable talent to his list of celebrity clientele.

What is Ken up to now? He is lending his talents to the contestants on The X Factor!

Mr. Paves revealed exclusively to HollywoodLife.com which contestants spend the most time in the styling chair, what hairstyle in an on-camera DON’T and more!

Do contestants request certain hairstyles for each show or do you use your expertise to create the looks? In other words, how much input do you have into their hairstyles?

“I create each look for each individual contestant, however filling a rather large bill…the song, style and genre of music, the stage and wardrobe, oh and did I mention the requests of the mentors and judges? Taking all that into consideration my main objective is to make the contestants look and feel like stars! I bring ideas and power points for reference to them as this all pretty new, the “glamourization” of it all!”

Is there any hairstyle that is just not camera-friendly?

“There’s a fine line with “Rock ‘n Roll” hair, it has to look lived in but not like somethings living in it — controlled chaos!”

Do the male contestants need a lot of hair styling or do they mainly do their own thing?

“The guys have actually really gotten in to the hair room, I think they spend more time in there than the girls! I mean come on Josh and his blow out were big news in twitter!”

What products do you reach for most when styling the contestants?

“The girls…hairpieces and more hairpieces! Everyone got weaved! For the boys with short hair, a barber on call! One of my good friends Pierce Austin does the best fades in the business.”

*We love how Ken added pink and blue hair extensions to contestant Drew Ryniewicz’ beautiful blonde hair (shown below).  If you’re looking to clip in some fun, we suggest the Human Hair Clip-In Color Strip by Put on Pieces.  The human hair fiber will allow you to crimp the hair extension with ease and for only $10 you can’t do wrong!
